SAVE THE DATES: AUGUST 16-39, 2020; SPECIAL CALLED SESSION OF THE MISSISSIPPI ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Please hold these dates for a possible Called Session of the Mississippi Annual Conference. The 2020 General Conference is May 5-15, which is only a couple of weeks prior to our regularly-scheduled Mississippi Annual Conference. In preparation for possible outcomes of GC2020, we are tentatively scheduling a called session of annual conference in August to have adequate time to prayerfully discern General Conference legislation that may require a vote from the annual conferences.

Due to the short time between those two conferences and not knowing what legislation might be passed, Bishop James E. Swanson Sr. would like you to have the dates of a special called session (if needed) already on your calendar. We are aware that churches are preparing their 2020 budgets now, and we wanted you to be able to plan accordingly. More details will be forthcoming if Bishop Swanson officially calls for the Special Called Session of The Mississippi Annual Conference in 2020.

NASHVILLE, TENN.: The Commission on the General Conference has unveiled the logo for the 2020 General Conference to accompany the theme, “…and know that I am God,” based on an excerpt from Psalm 46:10. The entire verse reads: “Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations. I am exalted in the earth.” (NRSV), although the verse number may vary in non-English translations. United Methodist Communications designed the logo, which is used to maintain a consistent visual identity for the 2020 General Conference.
